Stuff worth stimulating the economy for...

Here are a few of my recently discovered supermarket favorites:
  • Dr. McDougall's low sodium line of office friendly soups make a great addition to lunch or the 100 calorie soups are an awesome snack. They're packed with protein, fiber, and the large portion is a lot more satisfying than a lame-o-100 calorie cookie pack.
  • Fage Greek Yogurt. I've been eating this stuff since my Terp days and it's chock full of protein, specifically from whey (this is a dairy product and all). I've taken notice of a few studies showing whey protein being the most satiating...i.e. filling of all the protein sources.
  • Bob's Red Mill Flax Seed Meal. Flax is another source of omega 3 fatty acids which we just don't get enough of in our diets. Studies are linking the consumption of lignans (whole grains, seeds, flax, etc) to lower incidence of obesity and lower body weights. Basically if you nosh on more whole grains you'll weigh less. I can't believe they do studies on this because if something is less processed and has fiber...chances are, it'll fill you up. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's good for diabetics and anyone with blood glucose issues (hypoglycemia, pre-diabetes, etc.) due to the fiber. Mix it in to cereal, yogurt, whatever your heart's desire!
  • Better'n Peanut Butter. I can eat peanutbutter out of the jar with a spoon. This jar of ground goobers has only 100 calories per 2 tablespoons. Regular PB has 190. The calorie gods have answered my prayers.

Keep an eye out for....
