“Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food.” – Hippocrates

Most diseases can either be prevented by wellness or managed by wellness.  With the advent of technology, food mass production, and Biggest Loser.  We should probably be a pretty fit country and well versed in nutrition.  Food snobbery behind, I have no complaints about beer and wings or where I grew up in Pennsylvania, 'Yuengs and Wings'.  Ah, Yuengling Lager.  Happy hour dreams aside.

I wanted to run a series of blogs based on affordable food items that are available nationwide or just about.  I'm a 30% locavore since it's January and Farmer's Markets do not flourish in snow, particularly in the mountains of Maryland.

So as I resolve to be a more informative blogger, you can resolve to stash a little more cash and find a little more room in your jeans.

Archer Farms frozen vegetables available at Target cost 60% less than fresh.  Stock up on frozen fruit and whole grains to round out the start of a new year.

Evening reading includes my new Kindle obsession and a low calorie hot chocolate.

To make, combine:

  • 2 TBS Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa Power
  • 2/3 Cup 1% milk or the same amount of vanilla soy milk.
  • 1 packet of artificial sweetener or 2 tsp of honey
  • Non-Fat Whipped topping for garnish, if desired
Heat first 3 ingredients until simmering, pour into mug, garnish, and enjoy!
